When the temperature climbs, your fluid intake needs to climb too.
Blame it on the work day Blame it on the heatwave Blame it on the tick-tock moving too slow Blame it on any old thing you want to Ready get set, baby here we go
-Little Big Town
You can blame it on whoever or whatever you want, the bottom line is you probably are not drinking enough water. In this sugar sweetened beverage, big gulp, route 44 (if you don't get the reference, you're probably a Yankee, so just Google Sonic), frappuccino lovin' world, it can be easy to think you're drinking plenty of fluids, right? Wrong - liquid calories are one of the worst things for us. Diet soda - ditto. Those 16-24 ounce bottles of fruit juice, that has to be good for you, right? Wrong - they're just more liquid calories with little to no nutritional value.
But Pam, "I can't give up my sweet tea. You're from the south. You get it, right?"
Pam, "Sorry - your southern crack has got to go. A route 44 sweet tea has 400 calories and 103 grams of sugar."
I am notoriously bad about getting my water in but I'm getting better every day. Whenever it's available, I pick up fresh basil (purple basil makes your water tasty and beautiful) and fresh mint. Today, I grabbed apple mint and chocolate mint. I am absolutely stalking the guy for more of the orange mint - it is fabulous. Try some of these ideas to help increase your water intake to over 100 ounces/day.
Use a beautiful glass, bottle or insulated cup (when Reo had surgery, I got him a UK Tervis cup)
Keep your water with you ALL THE TIME (out of sight, out of mind)
Go for fresh and mix it before you go to bed so it's super flavorful in the morning - fresh herbs and/or a squeeze of fresh fruit
Add 6-8 fresh raspberries and/or blueberries
Add a squeeze of lemon with fresh rosemary
Blackberries with fresh mint or fresh basil is yum
Throw in 3-4 watermelon chunks with purple basil
Add a squeeze of lime with a few fresh strawberries
Drop in a few strawberries and 2-3 leaves of fresh basil
Fresh mint is 'da bomb (apple, orange, chocolate, spearmint)
Add a squeeze of lemon and a squeeze of lime along with a little fresh thyme (like that rhyme)
